Xavier Pauchard
FRANCE (1880–1948)
Metalworker Xavier Pauchard brought the art of galvanizing steel to France.
The galvanisation process involved taking iron or steel and dipping it in molten zinc to create an incredibly durable outer layer that is almost entirely impervious to degradation. In 1927, Pauchard trademarked the name Tolix and expanded his product line of small household items to include chairs, stools and table.
The quintessential cafe chair was elegant and robust enough to grace the decks of the S.S. Normandie ocean liner. And 80 years after the company was founded, the Tolix name is still recognised worldwide as best-in-class furniture.
Slight surface abrasions and markings are characteristic of the material and part of its hardworking machine aesthetic. Stackable up to 10 high. Made in France.
